Synopsis
It was more than a hundred years back when China found itself torn apart by chaos and disorder. The opium trade consumed the nation. Western nations claimed chunks of Chinese territory for themselves, setting up settlements and taking control of ports. The Qing Dynasty was breathing its last. Warlords and their factions battled one another for control. People demanded change—some pushed for reform, for a constitutional monarchy to exist alongside the old order, while others wanted revolution, wanted to tear down the entire system and build anew.
