When he rode through the city gates, Ming Zhen — a female official who had squeezed into the crowd — saw that his right arm was gone. She had been working in the palace well into her thirties, politely resisting the Empress's suggestions about marriage. She arranged to become the tutor at the Xue family's estate. A story about a fierce, loyal man and a woman who has her own way of seeing the world.
